Ashley, I see your point, and I understand. The problem I think is, and why Anet has had to filter certainly groups of words, is because so many idiots run with it when given the opportunity.

Elementalist :: Miss Temptress account 1
well.. on the side of my computer tower.. i have a bumper stick that i got long ago when i bought something for my car online that read "temptress on wheels" so.. yeh >.> thats where i got that. lol ;D
Mesmer :: Ms Femme Fetale account 1
well.. femme fetale was taken.. but isn't that name just well suited for a mesmer? ;o
Monk :: Faithful X account 1
i originally had Miss Faithful, but then it sounded a bit redundant from my elementalist.. so i just put a X instead :x
Necro :: Tainted Touch account 2
well fitted for a necro, no?
Ranger :: Destinys Desire account 2
was listening to a song i have called destinys desire (by a korean singer) and i was out of ideas so i just used it ;d
Warrior :: Im So Cute account 1
this name was originally my pvp slot, which was usually a monk, and it well suited her. then i decided to make a warrior, didn't wanna give up the name. so i had no choice to name my warrior this. i've gotten a handful of compliments on this name on my way through ascension and RoF. lol
Elementalist :: Scarlet Kiss account 2
name was just random name i drew up, was originally my FPE ritualist, but had to delete her cuz no more FPE x.x and i used the name on my elementalist.
Ritualist :: Petite Charat account 1
another pvp slot for a monk, decided to make a ritualist had no choice to name her this. ;p google it if you dunno!
Assassin :: Soco Krystal account 1
after the drink Southern Comfort, krystal cuz i <3 krystal (pretty name/word). commercial was on tv when i made it. so yeh >.>
all my names are pretty straight foward, and somewhat related to what class they are. :P
i r not that creative to make out unique names out of teh blue? T-T

Well ill chalk my names up to being completely unoriginal
My name is nate.. all my friends call me N8 or Neight or Neighto
so due to my unoriginality all of my chars have neight in the name in someform or another. (being a guild leader it makes it much easier for all my members to know whos talking with out having to press G and see who i am lmao)
my chars are:
War/mo Neighto the mad
Mo/Nec El Neighto
R/Mo Neight O
Mes/nec Neighto das Kopfweh (just so ya all know the last part is german for The headache)
sin/mo Neight Ette A.K.A Neighto the Storage Unit
Nec/Mo Darkmistress Neight (picked a female char here as the males look like drug addicted goth kids)
so there ya have it..

My first character was and is
Ciandra Trushot, I really thought that sounded archer-ish. Then I find someone like 4 or 5 quests in that has the last name of Trueshot.
Second there is my Warrior/necromancer, Her name is Arnis Fireforge. The I made up Arnis, but stole the last name from a dwarf in one of my favorite book series.
Then came My only male character, Lortan Spellslinger, Lortan, was thought up on the fly. He is a mesmer/elementalist, so Spellslinger seemed to fit.
Recently I started factions, I made a monk and a necro. I decided to make them related, we have the monk Liandra Bronwen, and the necro Sylphus Bronwen, I havent gotten around to writing a history about them but they are either gonna be sisters, or distinct personalities. (since they cant be in the same party so when one is around the other isnt.)

Criminally Sane... Guy who's sane enough to recognize that laws aren't necessarily representative of moral systems that he can personally support, who is actually thinking about what he want his moral system to be. A guy willing to risk breaking laws in order to abide by his own moral system.
Kar Ach Tur... Well, when you make a new char at 3:40 in the morning... <.<
Alcoholic Zombie... Refers to a few personal downfalls from the past. Drinking + not sleeping = bad, mmk. Mmmm, college.
Faaaa Therrrrr.... Arguably, DW5's best line. ;p

Anastasia Bhronn (Mo/X)
Marianna Bhronn (As/X)
Catarina Bhronn (E/X)
Baethory Delandir (N/X)
Teirin Delandir (R/X) and her pet pig, Lunchbox (logical name for a walking bacon sammich)
The surname Bhronn comes from a set of short stories written some time ago, and others in development. The surname Deladir hails from a series of short stories (and 3 novels in the works) set in a fantasy RPG MUD created and operated (and books co-written) by a good friend.
And the odd one out:
Leigh Onme (W/X) simply because she looked like all that and a bag of chips when I finished "designing" her, and well.. I felt like it.
If we were allowed to use one word names, I'd have a character named Obastable, simply because it's the alias I came up with 20+ years ago (anyone remember the internet on a C-64?!) and have used everywhere since. If you find an "Obastable" registered somewhere there's a 99.99999% chance that it's me.

QFT, with sadness.
Why there seems to be so many people determined to ruin a good thing is beyond my ken, but it wearies me nonetheless.
On the other hand, it's somewhat gratifying to see so many people who do seem to be interested in gaming for more than stats or gold or "pwnage."

Just because people have well thought out names doesn't mean that their primary reason for playing isn't one of these things. btw, don't ever put pwnage in quotation marks again...

I have 2 characters at the moment, and I always try to come up with good names for them.
My primary character, with which I have played for almost a year now, is called Enkido Lycanfang. I have no idea why I came up with Enkido... When I make up names, the first name is always self-invented, but I have a friend who told me Enkido is also the name of a mythical Babylonian wildman. Anyone know anything about that?
Lycanfang, I don't really like. First off, I wanted something with wolves and nature but it ended up Lycanfang, which stinks. My new idea Feralfist sounds better in my ears but I can't change my name so, meh.
My secondary character is a Ritualist, Chandril Soulcaller. I'm pretty happy about her name. Chandril sounds good and fantasy-ish and Soulcaller is simply a reference to the fact that she summons spirits.
Normally, the last names of my characters refer to the role my characters, or their families, would have (I know, I RP too much). You know how people are called Smith? A person was a smith so his name ended up being Smith, atleast in the middle ages.
I try to do the same thing with my characters. My monk's (I delete her and revive her constantly because her looks never fit my taste) second name is always "Bladehalt"; reference to stopping enemy swords. This sounds good too, I reckon.
My names always reflect my characters RP role; it's an RPG so I think they should have names that could work in an RP.

Enkido is the other character in the story of King Giglamesh, he was his freind and companion, he was planted in the wild by the gods to be equal to Gilgamesh. It is also the Japanese word for "orbit".
The story of Gilgamesh is considrered the oldest writen story.
Got to love Google

Here are a couple places I get my names from:
-Make them up
-Name generators (usually take too long and aren't worth my time)
-Wikipedia: I searched up the Xmen and combined Sabretooth's first name Victor with a lesser know Xmen's code name Wolfsbane for Victor Wolfsbane. Stuff like that. I also look up stuff on villians.
-Babynames.com, yeah yeah but it works. Has a list of meanings next to the names so you can get the right story behind your name.
-Searched medieval names: gives list of popular names of that time, first and last.
-Tweak letters of real names, i.e. William might be V'illam.
You get the general idea. Thats what I do usually.

Whoa. Didn't mean to tread on anybody's sacred cow with the "pwnage" thing. Sorry, but I refuse to bow to "leet-speak" in any way, shape, or form; I'm not about to start.
As for the actual comment, I was not solely referring to this thread, but to many gamers in general, some of whom self-represent very well in the Guru forums. Sure, there are lots of exceptions. I was merely indicating my feelings towards a specific group.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not very creative in naming.
On my first account, I named all my characters after women artists (mostly dead ones).
On my second account, after artist's subjects or literary characters. (My ranger has a bird named Moa Lisa.)
It IS gratifying when people recognize them. I had one person whisper me one day that I stole the name they really wanted. (Rrose Selavy)
In a way, I wish I were a man in real life, to use that name. (Google, you'll see why )

Plak Band....dutch name for scotch tape .
Took this name because i don't like fantasy names or most other names.
Plaku Bandu
Japanese variation i came up with after watching some japanese show on the internet once. They were shouting stuff, so i tried to pronounce my name like they would: PLAKUUUUU BANDUUUUUUUUUUUU. Really funny if you shout it a few times .
Neus Haar
-> nose hair.
Whaaat???

My first IGNs are probably pretty obvious. Being a hopelessly creepy goth chick, I took "Sister Mercy" from the band Sisters of Mercy, but it's also an inside nickname that I'd had from earlier. The next 2 characters followed along the Sister theme ("Sister Sin," "Sister Sinister" -- I wanted "Twisted Sister," but it was taken ), and then I stopped that after some guild was mandating the use of Sister names and everyone assumed that I was part of it.
Of my recent characters, my monk was a smart-@$#ed snip at people who were always complaining about Factions changes and whatnot ("Crimea River"). And my ranger ("Kay Challis") comes from one of the few comic books that someone was actually able to get me to read and really like (bonus points to anyone who guesses it). It's also a name which that author borrowed from Yeats ("Kay" originally having been "K." and "Challis" being an allusion to chalice, or the Holy Grail).
My kitty's name is also probably obvious: Cheshire.
Tips of the hat to Tobin Spirit Guide / Egon E Spengler, Hammered was Kvan, and the Moa Lisa.

My warrior carries a nick from a legend in the elders scrolls.
St Nerevar
It is been told that indoril Nerevar was a legend and a general who died at the red mountain at Vvardenfell in the district of Morrowind.
It is also been told that the reincarnation of Nerevar, Nerevarine would face the false gods and bring peace to Morrowind.
Hence my 2. war is called St Nerevarine
